The beauty in these words

As of late I have found quite a bit of idle time on my hand when I am not reading articles from applied ecology to ornithology for my ecology and biodiversity coursework. With the onset of November, I made the resolution to spend fifteen minutes per day on facebook!!! Being a fulltime university student, facebook has been the ultimate choice to relax and broaden your horizons after a never ending day of lectures. However, I am glad that I chose not to deactivate my facebook account, since it would give me the urge to have a peep at by inbox to check the notifications from facebook every few hours.

After reading blogs by my uncle and friends, I decided to create my own blog. Creating a display name was the easiest part as I always use the word “lullaby” as a display name on msn. This (lullaby) gave me the perfect idea for my very first post on my brand new blog: D. For me the word “lullaby” is the most beautiful word in the English language. I recall that day in high school when my English Literature teacher asked to come up with words that I would most like to use in a poem, the first word I came up with was “lullaby”.

I like the word because of the power it has over the human being regardless of the age and nationality. Every mother must have sung that lullaby in that soothing voice to lull her baby to sleep. It is part of the human culture and it will remain so in ages to come. Here is a list of the fifteen most beautiful words in the English Language to me .

1) Lullaby : a quiet song intended to put a child to sleep

2) Melody: the perception of pleasant arrangements of musical notes

3) Ripple: a small wave on the surface of water

4) Rhapsody: a beautiful free-flowing musical piece

5) Whisper: speaking softly

6) Azure: a light shade of blue (reminds me of the Maldivian sky on a sunny day)

7) Blossom: the time of flowering

8) Serendipity: the art of finding something by looking for something else (this has happened to me quite a few times)

9) Tranquility: a state of peace and quiet

10) Smile: facial expression by spreading the lips, often to signal pleasure (keep on smiling is one of my favorite phrases)

11) Love: a strong positive emotion of regard and affection

12) Cute: attractive especially by means of smallness or prettiness or quaintness (looking for a proper definition was difficult, don’t you think that is way too cute?)

13) Fragile: delicate, easy to break (this has been a word I use many time, Maldivian fragile environment :D)

14) Miss: feel or suffer from the lack of (someone), (I think this is a very powerful word, easy to express and used daily by millions of people)

15) Cozy: having a warm and friendly atmosphere

vagu bulhalaa, na'adhey,
migey dhoshah, na'adhey,
mige aku neh roakujje,
migey dhoshah na'adhey,

When mom realizes I wont sleep easily she would resort to this one; the swing by then would almost hit the roof from the front and back.

That's the only one i remember out of all the lovely ones she sang.

Hiiii

I simply loved that. It was fresh, it was “lite”, and to me was so full of mystery :-) . How I wish Allah gave me something even close to the way you blend your words, commas and full stops. And your list of 15 words sang melodies on and on.

Mmmm I could picture you liking … ecology, ornithology and biodiversity. :-). I love “Happy feet” and u do remind me of my star.

Peace! And May Allah Bless You.
